Playing FHM 11, Build 24.

I've seen a number of cases where teams were absolutely stacked with talent that went well beyond what they should have been able to carry. What I found was twofold.

1) Some star contracts in the $10M range were carrying cap hits of $1M. The example I sent is Brady Tkachuk, who was traded to Seattle for Berkly Catton straight up (wouldn't happen) and, without any salary retention, shows up on Seattle's cap hit at $1.07M. See screenshots.

2) Along the same lines, there are currently 5 teams in my simulated league operating well above their permitted salary caps. Attached is the base of Seattle's roster page showing them $3.5M above the cap, and that is even with Tkachuk's $9M discount. It makes it hard to compete.
