If you do that every year it keeps the stats in alignment around your League Totals, but if you haven't been using that option for quite some time then your average league stats have probably slid away from being aligned with the averages outlined in your League Totals.

The Auto-Calc process will have adjusted your modifiers, putting things back in line with those League Totals which could potentially be a dramatic difference.
