Game 113: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
It's deja vu all over again, as Boston drops another close game as a result of defensive errors. The St. Louis Browns (56-57) prevailed over the Boston Americans (65-48) by a 3 to 2 score. Boston maintains a slim 1-game lead in the American League race. This is not the way I wanted to start the final month of the regular season.
St. Louis pitcher Hooks Wiltse (10-17) limited scoring today, as he permitted 2 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks in his 111-pitch outing; Game Score 63. Sam Leever (18-8) gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and 1 hit batsman in 8 2/3 innings of work; Game Score 61.
The Browns offense was generated by Patsy Donovan (2 for 4, Double, Run), Billy Lauder (1 for 3, RBI), and Kip Selbach (1 for 1, Run). The Americans relied on Solly Hofman (3 for 4, Run, 2 Stolen Bases) and Jesse Hoffmeister (1 for 1, Run).
Player of the Game: Hooks Wiltse
