CCBL Analysis

With just two weeks left in the 2313 regular season, the CCBL playoff journey is starting to take shape for the 16-team playoffs with the three conference champions representing the top of the playoff tier and then 13 teams in wildcard positions.

Conference Leaders:
BCAC - z-Northeastern
MassCon - WNEU
SoComm - ECSU

Northeastern University, at 40-7, has already clinched a playoff spot and has a five-game lead over Winthrop College with 13 to play. The Western New England University (WNEU) Statesmen are also atop their conference by five games over Nuka University. The Statesmen have the CCBL's second-best record. In the new and struggling Southern Commonwealth Conference, East Connecticut State University (ECSU) is ahead of the University of Connecticut by two games with the Warriors five games below .500 but still the 3rd seed heading into the playoffs if they started today.

Here are the wildcard standings with the current teams in if the postseason started today:



CCBL Players of the Month

Hitter - Assumption second baseman Stud Colgan took home the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Batter of the Month Trophy for April.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .452 batting average and .577 on-base percentage with 42 hits, 9 home runs, 29 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Thus far this season in 46 games, Colgan is batting .447 with 17 home runs, 48 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has 72 hits in 161 at-bats.

Pitcher - The hottest hurler in the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League last month was Bullets Barnes of the Northeastern Huskies. He caught the attention of everybody in the league with some eye-catching stats, good enough to win the CCBL Pitcher of the Month.

In April, Barnes starred with an impressive 6-0 record. In 7 starts he gave up 49 base hits and struck out 37 in 50 innings with a 1.80 ERA.

So far this season, Barnes has a 11-0 record with a 2.07 ERA.

CYL Analysis

The CYL is near its regular season end with teams having 12 or 13 remaining games. At this time, no teams have clinched a playoff berth, though some teams are close. Still the lowest Magic # to clinch a division or wildcard berth is 8. Current division leaders are as follows:

Franklin - Needham Radstorm and Sudbury Celebs
Emerson - Lynn Pier Gamers
Fuller - Saugus Launchers
Revere - Boston Common Baby Bellies
DuBois - Newburyport Cubs and Rockport Seafarers
Adams - Hope Firestarters
Alcott - Andrew Station Southies
Morse - Taunton Giants
Attucks - Chatham Lighthouse
Hancock - Old Lyme Lake Monsters

Looking at the wildcard leaders, non-division leaders in the playoff hunt include the CIT Academy Yahoos, Beerthirty Sippers, Covenant Dandy Boys, Circle Jerks, and Marblehead Mess in the North Region and the Swansea Nuka Sox, Wareham Comets, Dennis Menaces, Kingstown Royals, Freeplat Wicked Goods, Plymouth Hunters, and Weymouth Locksmiths in the South Region.



CYL Players of the Month

NR Hitter - Plum Island Candymen fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in April.

No Neck Lok put up a remarkable month at the age of 16 and has been named the North Region Batter of the Month.

For the month, Lok hit .414 with 15 home runs, 35 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Lok currently has a .353 batting average with 47 hits, 20 homers, 46 RBIs, 37 runs scored and a .470 OBP.

SR Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Commonwealth Youth League, Darby O'Doherty put up some good numbers in April and earned the SR Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Nuka Academy's offensive leaders with a .470 average in 23 games. He also racked up 11 home runs, 22 RBIs, and 31 runs scored.

In 2313 O'Doherty has hit at a .451 clip with 60 hits, 19 home runs, 35 RBIs and has scored 46 times.

NR Pitcher - The North Region scribes have picked April's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Bubs Tentsleep of CIT Academy. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 5-0 mark.

The Yahoos star hurler made 5 starts with a 1.93 ERA and surrendered 20 hits in 37.1 innings. He struck out 33 and walked 10.

For the year, Tentsleep has a 7-2 record with a 3.03 ERA in 9 starts.

SR Pitcher - Big Dog Monaghan of the Jamaica Plain Treasures is the South Region Pitcher of the Month. In April, he sparkled and shined on the mound with 6 wins and no losses in 6 starts.

Monaghan checked opposing batters on 50 base hits and a .272 batting average. He rang up 52 strikeouts in 47.1 innings of work, surrendered 11 walks and fashioned a 1.90 ERA.

In 10 starts this season, Monaghan has registered a 7-2 record and a 2.21 ERA.
