Game 1
SP: Alois Herzog
Sheffield won the opening game in the series 3-2, in an extra-innings nail-biter. 2-1 down in the bottom of the 9th, the Hares got a crucial run on a bin Jameel sacrifice fly, and then won the game on a Mitch Cooper single in the bottom of the 10th, much to the jubilation of the home fans. Saetgaliev was the offensive spark for Sheffield, going 3-4, with a crucial one-run homer that started the Hares’ comeback in the bottom of the 8th. Herzog gave up 7 hits, but only 1 run in 5 innings.
Player of the game: Kolya Saetgaliev
Game 2
SP: Mototomo Motoyanagi
In another extra-inning game Sheffield came up clutch once again to take the series with a 5-4 win in game 2. Motoyanagi won player of the game, despite giving up 4 runs in 5 innings as he fanned 8, in a game that was so evenly spread offensively it was hard to give it to anyone else. It was Adam Koehler’s turn to be the hero, as he hit a songle to leftfield in the bottom of the 10th, for the Hares’ second walk-off win in as many games. Bucharest will be wondering what they have to do to win a game.
Player of the game: Mototomo Motoyanagi
Game 3
SP: Isaac Saville
The Hares battled well against the high-flying sounds’s but were denied a sweep thanks to a tight 2-1 win by Bucharest. Cecil Cook hit a 2-run homer in the 5th inning for the Sounds, and the Hares were unable to make back more than 1 of the Canadian’s runs as the Turkish starter Evrim Shushud gave up just 1 run in 7.1 innings for Bucharest. Cook’s 2-runs were the only ones Saville gave up, as he looked very reliable once again, but it wasn’t to be.
Player of the game: Evrim Shushud
Sheffield Mountain Hares record: 16-15
And with that, the Hares have completed 31 games, so it’s about time we took a look at their top performers so far.
