Game 123: Boston Americans vs. New York Highlanders
Thanks to the sloppy defensive play of the Highlanders and the all-around performance of Johnny Lush, the Boston Americans (73-50) thumped the New York Highlanders (60-63) by an 8 to 2 score. By picking up the win, Boston increased its lead to 7-games in the American League race.
Noodles Hahn (18-12) had an acceptable day on the mound, as he allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 10 hits, 4 walks, and 1 wild pitch while striking out 2 in his 149-pitch effort; Game Score 59. Barney Wolfe (13-15) was tagged with the loss after serving up 8 runs (3 earned) on 12 hits and 2 walks in 7 1/3 innings of play; Game Score 31. Zeke Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning of scoreless ball before turning it over to Harry McNeal for the final inning of play.
The Americans offense was generated by Danny Shay (3 for 5, 3 Runs, RBI, Stolen Base), Johnny Lush (3 for 5, RBI), John Farrell (2 for 4, 2 Runs, RBI, Walk, Stolen Base), and Bill Lange (1 for 4, Run, 2 RBIs, Walk). Jesse Burkett (3 for 5, Run, RBI) and Harry Davis (2 for 3) played well on the day for New York.
