BRADFORD DRIVES IN SIX AS FLOUR CITY POUNDS VICTORY
VETERAN CATCHER HAS BEST GAME OF CAREER IN DOUBLE-DIGIT F.C. WIN
TROY, N.Y. (May 22, 1869) – Early-season Upstate NY leaders Flour City improved to 11-3, as dominant work during the middle innings in Troy’s Rensselaer Park saw the visitors win by an even dozen:
The Flour City win was overshadowed by the fact that Victory star Henry Nabors’ forty-game Hitting Streak came to an end, but star P Jonathan Goodman hit three singles to make up for allowing five Earned Runs and the clear F.C. Player of the Game was their new catcher, Lorenzo Bradford:• T1: 1-run Single past 2B off W. Johannessen
• T3: 2-run Triple to RCF off W. Johannessen (R)
• T5: 1-run Single to CF off W. Johannessen (R)
• T6: 1-run Single past 2B off F. Hamilton (R)
• T7: Fly Out to CF off F. Hamilton
• T9: 1-run Double to CF off F. Hamilton
• TOTAL: 5/6, 2B, 3B, 3 R, 6 RBI, 8 TB, 99 GMSC Bradford was the only player for either team other than Goodman to finish the game with more than two base hits or two runs scored.
This was the best performance in the career of Bradford, an eleven-year veteran who joined Flour City in February after stints with Portland (1858-61), Mass. Bay (1862-65), & Empire (1866-68). The 1865 All-Star & Team of the Year member is batting .367 with nineteen RBI through fourteen games so far in 1869.
