Cards news: July 22 -- Five Cardinals are selected to NL All-Star team
The St. Louis Cardinals have had five players selected to the National League roster for the upcoming All-Star game.
The players are starting pitcher Ferguson Jenkins, relief pitchers Mike Marshall and Dave Giusti, catcher Bill Freehan and outfielder Cesar Cedeno.
The 32-year-old Jenkins had made 20 starts this season going 10-5 with a 2.89 ERA.
The 32-year-old Marshall has gotten into 35 games going 5-2 with 19 saves and a 0.65 ERA.
Giusti, 34, acquired in a July 7 trade with the Houston Astros, Giusti has got into 35 games going 3-1 with 15 saves and a 2.61 ERA.
He has pitched in six games for the Cardinals, going 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA.
The 33-year-old Freehan has played in 83 games/79 starts during which he has hit .262 with five home runs, 29 RBIs and 32 runs scored.
Cedeno, 24, has played in 82 games/74 starts during which he has hit. 339 with three homers, 31 RBIs and 50 runs scored.
