May was not our month. We were just 14-13 and we find ourselves 2 games behind the Astros. Our pitching has let us down, we are just 9th in pitching while still leading the league in runs. Our defense has been fine, we are just giving up too many runs.
We lost Ivan DeJesus for 3 weeks with a broken hand and then our closer Steve Howe went down with bicep tendonitis for 6 weeks. The only brightside of our staff has been Melliand. He has followed up his Reliever of the Year season by going 5-1 with 4 saves so far with a 2.01 ERA.
I had mentioned how disappointing the Twins were in April going 5-17. They ran off 11 straight wins in May and are now 24-27 after a 19-10 May. They are still 7 behind the A's, who have a 4 game lead on the Angels. The Orioles are 3 up on Cleveland and the Pirates are 3 games up on the Phillies.
