BMU Regular Season Ends with One League Tiebreaker
Happy days are here for the playoff-bound teams. The Boston Minor Union regular season is over and the playoffs will soon get under way to determine the league's best team for 2313. The clubs are planning their lineups and pitching rotations, going over scouting reports, trying to glean bits of information that might give them the edge. Nothing is seemingly left to chance. It takes a lot of talent and sometimes a little luck to bring home the Boston Minor Series trophy.
The Downtown Boston League finished with a regular season tie between the DB Tech Nuclear Physicists and West Roxbury Mole Rats after the Mole Rats lost while the Nuclear Physicists won on the final day. In the tiebreaker game, the Physicists came out on top, 9-6, to end the season on a seven-game winning streak and a trip to the playoffs.
The regular season set the stage and pruned down the number of title contenders. Now the clubs that made the cut will go at it on the diamond in the 2313 Boston Minor Union playoffs. It's the first step in the race to win the Boston Minor Series trophy. The Association Championship starts today with these clubs set to battle:
Mystic Pines Raybathers (Obe) vs Lynn Woods Bloatflies (ET) and Greater Mass Vans (FHE) vs DB Tech Nuclear Physicists (Lex).
Just one record fell and another tied in 2313. Let's list them below:
Doubles: 39 - CF Maduh Threats, West Roxbury; Previous record: 34, Thrifty Iraheta, 2309
Winning Percentage: 100% - RP Griz Balcacer (8-0); Previously held by five other players with the most recent being 2311, SP Chris Brahmin (15-0).
GBRL Divisions Were 'No-Contests'
Another season has come to pass and "to the winners go the spoils" -- the lucky ones will be headed for the playoffs in a few days and a chance to win the Greater Boston Rookie League title in the Rookie Series. The envious losers, however, will suffer a long and somber offseason, wondering where it all went wrong and trying to figure out how to do it right.
None of the divisions finished close with the closest race being Augusta's seven-game lead over Diamond Island. Woonsocket won their division by 32 games, and New Britain finished on a 10-game winning streak to win by 19 games.
The regular season has ended and anxiety is starting to rise around the clubhouses still harboring championship aspirations.
The playoffs begin today, the final sprint to the finish line and the time when great players earn their fame, when average players get a shot at immortality, and when rookies look to make their name.
Some dread it and some relish it, but everyone who dreams of playing in Greater Boston Rookie League wants to have a once-in-a-lifetime shot at championship glory. The 2313 League Championship kicks off today with these exciting matchups:
Augusta Harpooners (NB) vs Corvega Flamers (Slog) and New Britain Oceanics (Mal) vs Woonsocket Orphans (Lex).
A few records fell in the GBRL in 2313. Here they are:
Total Bases: 314 - 1B World B. Free, Woonsocket; Previous record: 300, Magnum Peaeye, 2304
Doubles: 40 - Raul Strikes; Previous record: 35, Dathomirian Zabrak, 2306
