DUFFY'S SIX HITS FUEL BIG ALLEGHANY WIN
CONVERTED OUTFIELDER SLUGS THREE XBH; TEAMMATE HARRIS DRIVES IN HANDFUL OF RUNS
WILKES-BARRE, PENN. (June 2, 1869) – Alleghany’s disappointing offense sprang to life this afternoon, as they visited Susquehanna for the first of their five-game series and battered their hosts for nine innings at River View Field:
Every Alleghany starter except CF Joe Thatcher safely reached base and scored, but their star batsman was easily OF Arran Duffy, who had the best game of his career batting against Elmer Seabold & Anthony Moritz:• T1: Single past 3B off E. Seabold
• T2: 2-run Triple to RF off E. Seabold
• T4: Single to LF off E. Seabold (SB)
• T5: 1-run Double to RCF off E. Seabold (R)
• T7: Double past 1B off A. Moritz (R)
• T8: 1-run Single past 2B off A. Moritz (R)
• TOTAL: 6/6, 2 2B, 3B, 3 R, 4 RBI, SB, 10 TB, 97 GMSC The performance raised Duffy’s average to .351 with 22 RBI so far in his first season as an outfielder, after he worked hard during the preseason to learn a new position so second base could be opened up for Henry Harris.
Speaking of Henry Harris, the second-year player & first-year regular had quite a game of his own, going 3/5 with one run scored and a team-leading five runs batted in.
The result improved Alleghany’s record to 13-8, while last season’s Inland champions fell to 6-15.
