BROOKLYN (June 5, 1869) – A huge third inning rally propelled Kings County to a ten-run home victory over Eckford of Greenpoint at Washington Park on Saturday afternoon:
Kings Co. #2 Charles Matthews had a fine performance – CG, 7 HA, 3 R (1 ER), 2 K, 2 RBI – but the team’s breakaway star against Eckford was OF James Hoyt:• B1: Single to LF off H. McLachlan
• B3: Leadoff Double to RF off H. McLachlan (R)
• B3: 1-run Single past SS off H. McLachlan (R)
• B5: Leadoff Single to CF off I. Shimmin
• B6: 1-run Single to LCF off I. Shimmin
• B8: Single to LF off I. Shimmin
• TOTAL: 6/6, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI Hoyt’s litter of hits raised the 3x All-Star’s average from .383 to .420 with an OPS of .942 through two dozen games, and the result brought Kings County’s record to 13-11 for the season, good for part of a three-way tie for second place in the Brooklyn Championship.
