PETTY’S HITTING STREAK ENDS AT 41 GAMES
BOTH PLAYERS TO REACH 40 GAMES WITH HIT STREAKS THIS YEAR SEE THEM END AT 40
READING, PENN. (July 7, 1869) – Lake Erie BC suffered a big loss at Reading on Wednesday afternoon, as their 8-4 lead at the middle of the seventh inning evaporated and turned into a walkoff loss:
Hosts Reading scored seven runs over the final three innings, and they won the game with a single by Floyd Fountain with two men out in the bottom of the ninth.
That was not the only loss for Lake Erie on the day. Franklin Petty entered the contest with a 41-game Hitting Streak, and here was how his afternoon unfolded:• T1: Fly Out to 3B
• T3: Fly Out to C
• T5: Ground Out to 1B
• T7: Reached via Base on Balls by W. Jones (R)
• T8: Reached via Error by SS T. Birdsong (SB)
• TOTAL: 0/3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB And thus, like Henry Nabors earlier this season, Franklin Petty’s efforts to break the Hitting Streak record come up just short, and Cormack Alexander’s record of 42 games remains safe.
Petty remains the NBBO leader in Batting Average, Slugging Percentage, and OPS.
