A few transactions ahead of the Rule 5 Draft saw a collection of infielders who hadn’t shown a viable bat/defence combination to stick in the Major Leagues for the Royals. Maguire, #79 prospect, was the biggest departure but his glove was never gone to play in the Royals infield and the return in Chafin, with potential plus plus stuff and three plus plus pitchers seemed a good return. The fans disagreed with a small drop in interest due to their unhappiness.

Several players were added to the 40 man to protect them with Nicanor Berns the only player waived that didn’t make it through waivers; the Orioles claimed him.

In the draft itself, the Royals lost no one and picked up a potential bullpen arm in D’Mani Hamble who probably doesn’t survive Opening Day cuts but will have the chance through Spring Training.

Following the Winter Meetings, several former Royals made their offseason moves. Chase Dollander signed a 5-year contract with the Phillies for less money than the Royals offered him frustratingly and the fans were shocked at the decision to let him go. They were upset, although less so, at the departure of Jacob Misiorowski who ended up at the Twins.

The only major league roster signing was the return of Raimon Gomez, a former Rule 5 pick up who had become too expensive for the Royals but has had a solid career and signs on for one year.
