I couldn't get a good result on the face enhancement on your original. I found a shot on ebay with a better face (see attached). Identified as coming from 1922, I thought two years was close enough. Of course, the uniform was a lot different than '24. Had to remove the pinstripes, get rid of the circle around the jersey "P", lighten the cap top, and add a cap logo. All of that was done in Photoshop Elements after general cleanup/enhancement via Topaz Photoshop AI. After the uniform changes, background and face colorization was done with palette.fm. Uniform colorization required revisiting Elements. Final step (probably overkill) was a slight face "crisp up" in Topaz Gigapixel. For what it's worth, I acquired the Topaz apps for use with personal photography. The fact that they work so well for vintage restorations was a side benefit.
