The defending World Series champion Baltimore Orioles lost Jeremy Scott and dropped to last place in the AL East, so we will have a new World Champion this season. The top two seeds in the AL will be the Yankees and Athletics. The White Sox topped the AL Central at 86-76 to capture their 2nd straight division title, but they appear to be the weakest team in the playoff field. Last year's runner up Arizona had a spectacular season at 106-56, capturing the 2nd best record in the NL but only good enough for the first wild card spot, as the Padres were even better at 109-53. The other first round bye to the NLDS will go to the St. Louis Cardinals. Philadelphia beat Atlanta in a one-game playoff to grab the #3 seed in the NL.
