American League Rookie of the Year

It was a bit of a gamble for the Boston Americans to trade Cy Young (who was coming off of a combined 56 wins in the previous 3 seasons) and a package of players to the "win now" Cincinnati Reds in return for their 1st round draft pick (6th selection). With that draft pick, the Americans targeted Johnny Lush; a pitcher with high potential and a surprisingly good bat. This gamble paid off, as Lush was named the American League Rookie of the Year. On the season, Lush posted a 19-15 record with a 2.10 ERA in 313 innings pitched that resulted in 6.6 WAR. Additionally, Lush was able to play outfield positions on his non-pitching day and contributed a slashline of .289/.327/.318 that resulted in an additional 2.4 WAR. Not a bad first year for Lush that saw him win Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, and the World Series!
