June 28-29, 2038: at Toronto (2)
The Rays split a pair north of the border with the Jays and held serve at 1 1/2 up as the Yankees split their two games as well.
Some early thunder gave the Rays a 4-1 win over Toronto in the opener. Danny Arroyave belted a 3-run homer (#15) in the first and Luis Berumen homered for the third straight game, a solo shot (#17) in the 3rd to provide the scoring and it was more than enough for Danny Morales (9-5) to get the win. The righty was excellent at 6 4 0 0 3 7 but things got a bit dicey in the 9th requiring Tony Alicea to get the final out for save #20.
The Jays turned the tables in the second game, beating the Rays by the same 4-1 scoreline they lost by the night before. Jake Bridgewater (3-3) had one bad inning, but a 3-run 5th was enough sink him and the team as he finished 5 5 4 4 1 2 while the bats struggled to score.
Team record: 47-31. Next up: Two games in New York against those very same Yankees so they'll need to at least get a split to stay in first.
