CBO Offseason
Now that the full offseason has begun, we can begin to look at changes being made in the Commonwealth.
In the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League, there are more teams joining the fray in 2314.
In the Southern Commonwealth Conference, there will be four more teams joining: the Coastal University Clams located in New London, CT; the Hope Valley University Hikers in Rhode Island; the University of Narragansett Tide in Rhode Island; and the Westerly Education Academy Owls of Rhode Island.
The first four teams of the Northern Commonwealth Conference also begins play in 2314 with the conference winner earning a spot in the playoffs. The four joining in 2314 are the Acadia College (Far Harbor, ME) Minks, Dartmouth College (NH) Big Green, Maine University Black Bears, and New Hampshire University Wildcats.
Finally, the CCBL will also welcome four teams as part of an independent conference not a part of the Big Four conference scheduled to be in full effect in 2317. Those four independent institutions are the Bridgeport (CT) University Purple Knights, Sturbridge (MA) University Mighty Men, Massachusetts (Buzzard's Bay) Maritime Buccaneers, and the Endicott (MA) College Gulls. These four teams can earn playoff spots as wildcards only until a full conference is established.
CBO Draft Preview
Looking at the 2313 Rookie Draft preview, this is yet another season of the draft being top-heavy with position players rather than pitchers. In OSA's initial mock draft, youth league pitcher, SP Lane Phrasemaker, is expected to be the first pitcher selected at #19. He is the only pitcher expected in the top 50 picks, with SP John Wondewall of West Quincy being expected to be the 53rd pitcher selected. We're not sure if that is how the draft will go, but this is a draft where teams needing position players will get their fill and teams needing pitchers (well, every team) not likely to find their star here.
