Minor League News

Bryant Rumbolt (2037 MiL FA) has a lot going for him. The Northwest Arkansas left fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Texas League has just picked him as its top hitter for April.

In 18 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .385 with 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Juan Rivera (2030 Scouting Discovery) was the best pitcher in April according to the voters. He severely shut down opposition batters to win the Texas League Pitcher of the Month Award.

Northwest Arkansas's star reliever compiled a 3-0 mark and an ERA of 0.87 in 20.2 innings with 28 strikeouts and no saves in no save opportunities.

Quad Cities River Bandits fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in April.

Bob Crimi (2033 14th Round) put up a remarkable month at the age of 22 and has been named the Midwest League Batter of the Month.

For the month, Crimi hit .353 with 11 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

April's top hurler was Omari Hammie (2033 11th Round) of Columbia. He shackled Carolina League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 3-0 mark.

The 21-year-old Hammie added 27 strikeouts in 20 innings and 9 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.70 ERA. Other clubs hit .233 against him.


Around the League

A sparkling 3-1 mark in April just about says it all. First-year phenom Jonathon Cote of the Toronto Blue Jays put up a strong performance and that's why the American League rated him the Rookie of the Month.

He stood out by holding opposing clubs to a .223 batting average and compiling a 4.15 ERA. Cote struck out 24 and walked 12 in 26 innings.
