It is the rubber match after a terrible outing yesterday.
Today the Astros are pitching Rheal Cormier (6-3, 3.72).
The Giants have Rod Nichols (1-5, 4.58).
I am hitting seventh again.
I caught a Jay Bell pop for the 2nd out in the bottom of the 1st.
I came up in the 2nd with two out and Craig Grebeck on 1st. I lined out to Dave Gallagher in right.
We turned a Thompson - Priske - Lewis double play in the 4th.
I led off the 5th by grounding out to Roberto Alomar at 2nd.
I dealt with a Daniel Williams grounder for the final out of the inning.
The egg was cracked in the bottom of the 7th when Alomar scored on a Williams sac fly.
Astros lead 1-0
I led off the 8th with a sharply struck base hit to left.
Stolen base #34.
I was stranded.
Mark Ross took the ball for us in the 8th.
I took care of a Tony Phillips grounder for the 2nd out and then John Olerud for the 3rd out.
We couldn't score in the 9th and lost a pitcher's duel.
Sorry Rod.
Now we head to Cincinnati, trailing them by a half game for 3rd in the NL West.
