November 30th - Trade News

Three-Team Trade Lands Bearcats Ward, Expos Prospect

November 30th, 2020

Sometimes, it needs more than one interested party to make a trade. In this case, three were needed. In a dead that reportedly was orchestrated by Expos GM K.C. Martin, the Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Angels and Salt Lake City Bearcats traded players that could shape up the future of those ballclubs.

Salt Lake City Bearcats receive:
LF Brian Ward(27, 3.5*) .267/.342/.478 32HR 93RBI 2.1WAR - $11.9M – 3x All-Star 1x Silver Slugger
40% paid by MON, 60% paid by LAA

Los Angeles Angels receive:
A SP Kyle Lausch(23, 2/2.5*) 5-3 1.47 53K 12GS 0.6WAR #61 prospect
AAA 3B Chance North(25, 2*) .243/.290.407 10HR 41RBI 92G 1.6WAR

Montreal Expos receive:
R 3B Joe Townsend(19, 0.5/4*) .151/.205./.249 5HR 10 RBI -0.7WAR - #117 prospect

Why the Expos gave up the #61 prospect to get the #117 prospect remains their secret, but for Salt Lake City, they got a hitter in their prime, and the Angels got rid of a player they put on the trading blog while eating some money.

Hear me out. Townsend is a 80 grade power potential player that could become a premier slugger according to our scouting department. His ratings are low at 3B… because he is not a good defensive player at third, and we will train him at 1B to move towards a position he field in the future.

As for Lausch, many teams were high on him, but his #61 prospect rating is fake. He currently is regarded as a starter, but is 45 rated in stamina and therefore will never be a productive starter, and his trade value was too high to keep him around as a reliever in the future.
