And we were basically ambushed the morning of the second day when
Boston Aeros GM Steve Jewell stormed into our camp with his arms waving and almost screamed that “he wants
Elias Mendia and he won’t leave without him. I quickly set down with him, offered him a water and asked why he things I’m willing to trade
Mendia.
His answer was blunt. “Kid, I’ve been around for 20 years now, and I’ve seen ****. You have played your hand pretty well, but you also pretty much had the catcher market cornered for all the offseason, and getting another good one in
Jordan Chavis means you are open for business. And so am I. You need a reliever right?”
Dave G. quickly shot me a node sayin
Pelletier, meaning AAA RP
Andy Pelletier(25, 2.5*, 6-4 15SV 3.05 49K 56IP 0.8WAR A/AA/AAA). “Ok mister, I want
Pelletier for my pen. And I want a right-handed reliever prospect, and I want
Ian Messer, in my outfield next year, and I’m giving you
Steve Tedder back. Take it, or leave it.”
I heard Dave cough to the left of me, but my eyes were fixated on Jewell… would he bite?
Messer to Montreal as in Trade with Boston
stadiumreport.bbn December 14th, 2020
There were plenty of hugs and handshakes all around as 23-year old A C
Elias Mendia(23, 2.5*, .236-4-8 .707 0.3WAR and 24-year old AAA LF Steve Tedder(24, 2/2.5*, .338-7-28 .947OPS 1.5WAR AAA) left the Montreal Expos today en route to joining the Boston Aeros organization. 25-year old RF Ian Messer(25, 2.5/3*), 25-year old minor league RHP Andy Pelletier(25, 2.5*), 20-year old minor league RHP Wyatt Ings(20, 1.5/2.5*), and $1,000,000 in cash will be traveling to Montreal Expos to complete the swap.
During his career, Messer has notched 105 hits and a .285 average with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs.
The main prize for
Montreal in this deal will be left-handed batting outfielder
Ian Messer. The 17th overall pick in 2017 was the #86th prospect in 20185 and made his NMLB debut this season, batting .285/.347/.467 with 11 home runs and 53RBI in 110 games, good for 2.6WAR.
That was the only exciting thing to happen on this day in the Winter Meetings. Traded were shallow this offseason between other teams, and big deals have not happened apart from free agent signing. As for us, we are waiting for some minor league free agents to sign, and we looked for some relief prospects in some minor deals, see below…
News:
November 15th In a small minor league centered deal, the
Montreal Expos traded AA 2B
Jeff Witherell(23, 2.5*, .277-8-28 .775OPS 3.3WAR A A/A/AA) to the
Miami Marlins, getting 23-year old left-handed relief prospect
Rudoph Chambers(20, 1.5/3*, 1-4 4SV 2.70 0.6WAR in R) back
November 15th – In a similar deal, the
Houston Astros were very hot on AAA LF
Jeremy Meadows(23, 2/2.5*, .264/16-58 .748OPS 126G 7.0WAR S A/A/AA) and gave back S A LHRP
Kyle Edwards(23, 2/3*, 2-3 14V 1.72 38K 31.1IP 0.0WAR S A/R) and S A RF
Mark Lowery(23 1.5/3*, .230-5-11 .679 2.9WAR).
We got some prospects in those minor deals, not enough to write home about, but good enough to bolster a weak system…
