We are 28-36. 8.5 games behind the Astros for the NL West lead. We are in 4th.

We are back home.

Today the Padres are in town and are pitching Jorge Martinez (4-9, 5.82).

The Giants have Rick Sutcliffe (2-5, 4.73).

I am hitting seventh.

I made an error on the very first play of the game, allowing Chad Curtis to reach on what should have been an easy grounder.

I caught a Kirt Manwaring liner for the 3rd out, so no major damage done.

In the 2nd, Robby Thompson did the same as me, botching the first play of the inning. This one ended up worse as Bill Pecota ended up scoring on an Eric Young double.

Padres lead 1-0

I came up with one out in the bottom of the 2nd and struck out.

I took care of an Orlando Merced grounder for the 3rd out in the 3rd.

In the 4th, Manwaring scored on a Dickie Thon sac fly.
Then Pecota scored on a Young double.
Young ended up scoring on a wild pitch.

Padres lead 4-0

I came up in the bottom of the 4th with Craig Grebeck on 1st. I popped out to Pecota at 3rd.

Scott Service took over for us in the 5th.

The first batter he faced, Tony Gwynn, hit a home run.

I caught a Merced liner for the 1st out.

Padres lead 5-0

I handled a Martinez grounder for the 3rd out in the 6th.

I came up with two out in the bottom of the inning and flew out to Gwynn in right.

Bryan Hickerson took the ball for us in the 7th.

Curtin and Gwynn scored on a Merced double.
Then I took care of a Manwaring grounder for the 2nd out, but Merced scored on the play.

Padres lead 8-0

Heathcliff Slocumb took the ball in the 8th.

Up 8-0 in the 8th and Eric Young stole 2nd. Not cool.
He scored on a Thompson - Priske - Klesko double play.

Junior Felix scored on a Manwaring single.

Padres lead 10-0

In the bottom of the 8th, Bryce Bernadon scored on a fielder's choice by Craig.
I then came up with two out and Craig on 1st. Dan Petry was the pitcher. I walked.
We were stranded.

Padres lad 10-1

Ted Power took the ball for the 9th.

I took care of a Young grounder for the 3rd out for him.

We got one more in the 9th (pinch hitter Tim Naehring scored on a Ryan Klesko single), but that was all and we lost, 10-2.

I went 0 for 3 with a walk and an error.

That puts us back to 5th, behind San Diego.
