Dean Keelan Stars in National League Loss to Union League
Despite Keelan’s best efforts, 3 hits in 3 at bats and 2 RBIs, his National League All-Stars could not keep pace with the bats of the Union League in the annual All-Star Game.
This the first all-star match up since the restructuring of the professional level of baseball, it was drawing much attention, and a sellout crowd of 18,000 filled Bradford’s Barkerend Road baseball ground for the occasion.
Despite the National League’s strong start, scoring 3 runs in the first inning, they were unable to maintain their early lead. The Union League steadily closed the gap, ultimately taking control in the sixth and seventh innings, with a 2-run home run from Harris (SS, Leicester) in the sixth and Latham (3B, Croydon) contributing the same in the seventh.
The game saw multiple strong pitching performances, including Union League’s C. O'Keefe (Leicester) who pitched 2 scoreless innings and earned the win, and A. Murphy (Croydon) who secured the save.
Final score as 6-4 at Barkerend Road, Dean Keelan earning the game MVP for his standout performance.
