Jays Spoil Hinton’s Debut and Win, 5-4
The
Montreal Expos got a sterling performance from pitcher
Dan Hinton, but the
Toronto Blue Jays still prevailed, 5-4.
Hinton threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball.
Toronto reliever
Willis Quevedo snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0.
Adam Rudolph shouldered the loss.
Ron Palovich earned the save for
Toronto, his 11th.
Toronto needed the clutch hitting of
Oscar Cabrera to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the
Blue Jays on top, 4-3. For the game,
Cabrera had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats. Rumors say,
Cabrera is on the trading block despite batting .261-8-27 .795OPS in 40 games.
Said
Toronto manager Art Tierney: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
The win for the
Blue Jays raised their record to 25-18.
