CBA Playoffs - Commonwealth Championship: Salem Shadows vs Airport Aviators
Game 6: Airport 109 at Salem 98 - Airport Wins Championship, 4-2
Offense was not the key, but the Airport Aviators did just enough on the road to overcome the home Salem Shadows, winning the game, 109-98, and clinching the championship in the first season of the Commonwealth Basketball Association.
DA Forte took game MVP honors, contributing 25 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and a block in victory. All five starters scored in double figures with BB Whiteman and Fickle Fitzgerald each scoring 18 to finish behind Forte.
Salem jumped out to a 31-22 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and led by as many as 14 points early in the game. However, the Aviators bounced back to take a 54-53 lead heading into halftime. After another dominant quarter, including going up by as much as 12, Airport left the 3rd quarter up 83-73. The Shadows were never again able to get the game within two scores as the Aviators did just enough in the 4th to maintain their large lead.
JB Letterhead was the leading scorer for the Shadows, putting up 33 points in 44 minutes of action. Licker Sam Arnold added 22 points along with 24 points and 14 assists, and Jamal Pleick scored 16.
Airport is located at the Boston Airport with Easy Town, Nordhagen Beach, and Revere Beach nearby. They get to celebrate one team while their local CBO teams struggle.
