American League East
Things have gotten very tight and very interesting in this division. The 1985 Cardinals slumped all month long losing 17 games while the 1960 Cubs made up some ground playing at about .500. The biggest gainers were the 1974 Red Sox who won 17 games and are now just two games back. Dwight Evans won player of the month honors for the second straight month and is hitting .337 while Bernie Carbo hit .522 in his last 1 games. Danny Cox and the Cardinals pitching had a rough patch and the offense cant get on base to utilize its speed. Even the 1930 Pirates still have alot to play for just 8 games out. The darlings of the division have to be the Cubs, who without a star are 18-9 in one run games and sitting tied on top of the division.

American League East
Twenty one wins in the month of June including a 10 game winning streak and the 2016 Dodgers are running away with things heading into the break. Kenley Jansen had 12 saves in the month without allowing a run while Clayton Kershaw threw 17 scoreless innings in his last 2 starts. The 1994 Padres saw Tony Gwynn cool off and they took their lumps getting swept at Dodger Stadium. Lou Whitaker has heated up and the 1988 Tigers have played better but are still a game under .500. The 1979 Cubs keep showcasing the power of Dave Kingman who now has 26 HR with 61 RBI but the club is going nowhere as team defense and overall pitching hasnt shown up. It really does appear that no one in the end will be able to keep pace with the rolling Dodger machine.

National League East
After some harsh words and a team meeting, the champion 1946 Cardinals woke up and seem to want to put up a fight in the East. A good series win in Boston gave them confidence and Stan Musial has been incredible ending the month with 77 RBI already. Tris Speaker was player of the month as he is hitting .372 with 24 RBI but the rotation is really missing the injured Smokey Joe Wood. Sammy Sosa has 22 home runs and Carlos Zambrano is 10-2 but the Cubs are prone to mistakes and are haven't played well since April. The 1909 Phillies had a winning month and have been a pleasant surprise. Kitty Bransfield is a fan favorite with 57 RBI while Sherry Magee is hitting .327. Still Boston has a good grip on things heading into the break but if the Cardinals remain hot, we could have a very interesting race to the finish.

National League West
The 1921 Reds catch and pass the 1906 Pirates to end the month and look like they have no intention of looking back. Their play stunned Pittsburgh as the Reds are an amazing 27-10 in one run games with Bob Geary becoming a very good closer with 15 saves and a 0.84 ERA. Edd Roush leads a modest offense that hits when it needs to. The 1906 Bucs had a losing month and the pitching has been the reason. Vic Willis and Sam Leever need to be much better in the rotation while any thought of a Pirate pen has been a disaster. The 1985 Tigers had a very rough month but Sparky Anderson says he still believes in this bunch as they sit 8 games behind the lead but with plenty of season ahead of them. Finally the 1948 Cubs looked much better in June but no one really is taking them seriously. Can the Pirates punch back after the Reds big June surge? These two midwest rivals will be going at is all season long.
