The June 1 Super Post, Part 2

NEBL

Teams in the MML have played 45 games of their 108-game season, so they are nearing the midway point of the season. Current divisional leaders are the Clifton Vertibirds (Maine), Burlington Feras and Abernathy Adamantium (Vershire), Braintree Robobrains (Mass), and Providence Warlocks (Connri).

PL Hitter of the Month - Dan Sturtevant battered Patriot League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around New England Baseball League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Sturtevant told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Sturtevant hit .462 with 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

Looking at his season stats, Sturtevant has compiled a .418 batting average and a .508 on-base percentage, while hitting 12 home runs and driving in 39 runs.

YL Hitter - Needham Archers fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in May.

Buttons Bunterson put up a remarkable month at the age of 25 and has been named the Yankee League Batter of the Month.

For the month, Bunterson hit .370 with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Bunterson is batting .363 this season in 44 games with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 61 hits in 168 at-bats.

PL Pitcher - Cooch Pace really put his best foot forward in May with 4 wins and no losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month honors in the Patriot League. When he got the start for the Burlington Ferals, it was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 54.1 innings of work, Pace limited opposing batters to 40 base hits and a .207 batting average. He notched 39 strikeouts, issued 17 walks and had a 1.99 ERA.

This season, Pace has compiled a 5-1 record with a 2.47 ERA in 11 starts.

YL Pitcher - There was nobody finer on the mound in May and Mike Suerth cruised to the Yankee League Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 4-0 with a 2.44 ERA while piling up 48 strikeouts in 51.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .236 batting average.

So far this season, Suerth has a 4-1 record with a 3.19 ERA.

MML

Since the MMLand NEBL both follow the old CBO's 108-game schedule, the MML teams have also played 45 games. Current divisional leaders are the Watertown Armorers (Boggs), Littleton Ragers (Murtagh), Pawtucket Pips (Williams), and Bridgeport Gulchers and Newton Behemoths (Yastrzemski).

LL Hitter of the Month - Marblehead Grenades fans believe they've got a talented young star in Squall Gunblade.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .333 with 17 home runs, 35 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

The end result was the right fielder being named the Legends League Batter of the Month.

Gunblade is batting .308 with 23 home runs and 47 RBIs this season.

SL Hitter - At only 21 years of age, Larry Fab could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Suffolk County Pink Goo, as May was one to remember for the third baseman and he has captured the Stars League Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .379 with 15 home runs, 26 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

This year, Fab has hit at a .367 pace and produced 46 RBIs, 24 home runs and scored 48 runs.

LL Pitcher - Dimman Dillon dazzled opponents on his way to the Legends League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

Posting a 5-0 record and a 1.42 ERA, the Littleton Ragers starter held opposing hitters to a .226 batting average while striking out 37 in 50.2 innings and giving up 16 walks.

This season, Dillon has gone 5-2 with an ERA of 2.47, posting 48 strikeouts in 69.1 innings.

SL Pitcher - Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 7-0 with a 3.20 ERA, Kid Boots Appling was selected as May's Stars League Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Hull starter as he left the clubhouse.

"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."

Kid Boots Appling definitely contributed to the club. He had 7 starts, throwing 56.1 innings, striking out 42, and holding the opposition to a .240 average.

For this year, Appling has chalked up 8 wins and 2 losses in 11 starts with 64 strikeouts in 79.1 innings and a 4.20 ERA.

BMU

The BMU has reached its halfway point, having played 49 off their 88-game schedule. The BMU is also on its All-Star Break with the game being played tomorrow. We will list the All-Star roster below. As far as divisional leaders are concerned, leaders are the Lynn Woods Bloatflies (Dark Hollow Pond), Union Hope Lifegivers (Cambridge), Hingham AntAgonizers (Downtown Boston), and Greater Mass Vans (Glowing Sea).

CA Hitter of the Month - Duzint Getboring may be much younger than other hitters in the Commonwealth Association, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in May to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 20-year-old Rocky Narrows right fielder hit .341 with 13 home runs, 32 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

For the year, Getboring is batting .349 with 24 home runs.

MA Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Boston Minor Union, Eddie Furnace put up some good numbers in May and earned the MA Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Greater Mass's offensive leaders with a .474 average in 19 games. He also racked up 15 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 27 runs scored.

For the season, Furnace has hit .474 with 15 home runs and 35 RBIs. He has played in 19 games and scored 27 times.

CA Pitcher - When the Bloatflies skipper wrote Doo on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in May he took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 6-0 mark and 2.36 ERA in 7 starts. The gifted Bloatflies star pitched 49.2 innings, fanned 57 and held opposing teams to a .201 average.

For his excellent mound work Doo was named the CA Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This season, Doo has compiled a 6-2 mark with a 3.96 ERA.

MA Pitcher - Last month's cream of the crop on the mound was Ro Rowe of the DB Tech Nuclear Physicists. He captured the Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month award for his outstanding performance in May.

Rowe started 7 games, threw 47.1 innings, yielded 34 hits and logged a 5-0 record. He put down 49 batters on strikes, walked 19 and compiled a 2.09 ERA. Opposing teams batted .194 against him.

Thus far this season, Rowe has posted a 7-0 record, started 12 games, struck out 78 batters in 76.1 innings and compiled a 2.59 ERA.

Half of the season has been played and now it's time for the All-Star game! It's a game where the fans will get to see their favorite players compete on the same field together, a game where the players themselves become fans and all of baseball comes together to celebrate one of the great traditions of the game -- the Boston Minor Union All-Star game. The Commonwealth Association and the Massachusetts Association will come together today to decide the title of the best league for this season.

GBRL

The GBRL is also on its All-Star Break with 49 games played. Leaders are the Coastal Cottage Buds (Northeast), Fiddler's Green T-60s (Northwest), Woonsocket Orphans (Southeast), and New Britain Oceanics (Southwest). The Greenwich Grays (36-13) are currently on a 10-game winning streak, moving them to just four back of the Oceanics.

NL Hitter of the Month - Hot Stuff Arrow has a lot going for him. The Corvega first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the North League has just picked him as its top hitter for May.

In 27 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .392 with 17 home runs, 29 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Hitting .295 to date, Arrow has 21 home runs and 39 RBIs. He has played in 46 games.

SL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 21 Lance Tinter has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young New Britain Oceanics star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the South League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .436 average with 18 home runs, 29 RBIs and 41 runs scored.

Currently Tinter is batting .404 with 65 hits and 29 home runs. He has knocked in 46 runs and scored 62 times.

NL Pitcher - The Pitcher of the Month Award in May has been selected and the North League honor went to Brattleboro hurler, Franklin Hammond. For his excellent performance he has been named the league's top pitcher.

During the month, Hammond was superb with a 1.80 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 45 innings he struck out 50 and gave up 37 hits and 15 walks.

In 12 starts this year, Hammond has recorded a 7-2 record and a 2.61 ERA.

SL Pitcher - The South League scribes have picked May's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Vault Boy Barnette of New Britain. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 7-0 mark.

The Oceanics star hurler made 8 starts with a 2.44 ERA and surrendered 36 hits in 51.2 innings. He struck out 63 and walked 26.

For the year, Barnette has compiled a 9-1 record with a 2.35 ERA.

What's the best league? The North League or the South League? The answer will be found in the Greater Boston Rookie League All-Star Game. All the votes have been counted and tabulated, all the players have been selected, and they will decide the question on the baseball diamond.

Scheduled to play for the North League All-Stars are:
