Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues

Wild, Cherry Hold Early Leads

We are just over the quarter mark of the 2314 season with the Wild Gatorclaws and Cherry Ghoulrillas leading the way in the North Bradberton and South Bradberton divisions. The Gatorclaws (17-7), which won the Nuka Series in 2313, is a game up on the Victory Cave Crickets, PAM's choice to be the division winner. Cherry (14-10) is up by four games on Quartz and Dark. Orange (9-15), the predicted South Bradberton Division winner, is in last place and tied with Quantum for the CBO's worst record.

Tick Garrett of the Cherry Ghoulrillas had a field day with Nuka World League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During May he compiled a .423 batting average, drove in 30 runs and scored 19 times. He also managed to pick up 8 walks to post a .454 on-base percentage.

The Nuka World League announced today that Mucky Timmons has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The Victory starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 4-1 record.

In May Timmons chalked up a 1.05 ERA in 43 innings with 36 strikeouts and 7 walks.

Victory's A-Train Gilmore collected 24 hits to snare the Nuka World League Rookie of the Month for May.

He batted .270 with 8 home runs, 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace. He was a 2nd-round pick by the Egret Ninjas of the CBO in 2309.

In the APL. the Nuka Bottling Plant Pack (12-3) and Grandchester Flying Ants (9-6) are leaders in the North and South divisions, respectively. The Pack are on a seven-game winning streak, while the Flying Ants are on a five-game winning streak.

Beau Ring certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the APL Batter of the Month award for May.

The 20-year-old left fielder for the Dunmore Ferris Wheels hit .358 with 5 home runs, 10 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Fire Phil Bush really strutted his stuff in May with 3 wins and no losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Amusement Park League. The Red Rocket starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 27.1 innings of work, Bush limited opposing batters to 23 base hits and a .235 batting average. He totaled 18 strikeouts, issued 5 walks and had a 1.65 ERA.

All A's at the Apex

The Eden Meadows Anglers lead the the Fog Division, and the Acadia Acadians lead the Harbor Division, putting two of the three Vim! League 'A' teams at the top. the Grand Hotel Atoms are in last place in the Harbor Division. The Anglers were the 2313 Vim! Series and Season Pass Series champions. Eden Meadows defeated the Acadians in the Vim! Series. Both teams made their first Vim! Series last season.

Chris Knickerbocker is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Echo Lake left fielder joined that select company when the Vim! League announced the results of May's voting.

Knickerbocker totaled 41 hits, 5 walks, 8 home runs, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored last month to put together a .432 batting average and .455 on-base percentage.

May's top hurler was Steady Mike Holmes of Eden Meadows. He shackled Vim! League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 4-0 mark.

The 29-year-old Holmes added 31 strikeouts in 50.2 innings and 14 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.13 ERA. Other clubs hit .229 against him.

Jaylin Fox strung a bunch of high quality starts together in May to earn the Vim! League Rookie of the Month trophy.

For the month of May the 23-year-old Fox recorded a 4-1 won-lost mark with a 3.99 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 47.1 innings.

In the Mount Desert Island League, the Brooke's Head Lights and MS Azalea Shipwrecks are leaders of the Small Bertha and Old Longfellow divisions, respectively.

Dyl Pickle made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Mount Desert Island League this past month.

The MS Azalea Shipwrecks left fielder shined through the month of May and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 23-year-old hit .322 with 7 home runs, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

In May when the Kitteredge manager wrote the name "Plows" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Caramel Plows took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 3-1 mark and 0.79 ERA in 4 starts. The gifted Rad Rabbits star pitched 34 innings, fanned 22 and held opposing teams to a .194 average.

For his outstanding mound performance Plows was named the MDIL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.
