Ed Keas 1888
Ed Keas came from Dubuque, where he was a member of their famed 1884 club. A photo of the club was printed in the Dubuque Telegraph Hearld on Nov 28, 1937. Here is is, a few years before his brief moment in MLB. According to the article accompanying the photo, Ed Keas invented the spit ball.
Jack Brown played with the St. Louis Browns Reserve club in 1884, and later that season played with Rock Island and then Stillwater. The Stillwater appearance is credited to Ed Brown by Baseball-Reference.
