CBA Awards
The CBA awards were announced last night, and to us new to basketball, the MVP award was a surprise. Southie's Vee Tsankov was the winner, beating out Boston's Tre Davis for the award.
Tsankov averaged 24.1 PPG, 9.8 APGH, and 4.7 RPG. He had 39 double-doubles on the season. He had one of the CBA's 17 triple-doubles. Salem's Licker Sam Arnold led the CBA with 14.
Davis was not held out of all awards, though. Every player in the league was technically a rookie, but the 26-year-old Davis was named Rookie of the Year as well as earnign 1st team honors for All League, All-Defense, and All-Rookie. Airport's DA Forte was the only other player to land 1st team on all three lists.
In addition to being on all three 1st teams, Forte as we already knew was the Playoffs MVP for the champion Aviators.
Southie's Matt Coulter was named Coach of the Year. The Boston Mayoral Shelter resident before becoming the Jammers' coach was a leading member of building the league and took a team expected to be just OK and made them contenders in the first CBA season.
Southie also had two other awards. Isaac Tibbetts was the Defensive Player of the Year. The Jammers' Corey Dixon was also named the Sixth Man of the Year for the league's best player off the bench.
