Happy days are here for the playoff-bound teams. The Boston Minor Union regular season is over and the playoffs will soon get under way to determine the league's best team for 2314. The clubs are planning their lineups and pitching rotations, going over scouting reports, trying to glean bits of information that might give them the edge. Nothing is seemingly left to chance. It takes a lot of talent and sometimes a little luck to bring home the Boston Minor Series trophy.
The regular season has closed and now the "real" season begins. The playoffs in Boston Minor Union start today and all the clubs that made it into the Association Championship are hungry to claim the ultimate prize: the champion's mantle -- the Boston Minor Series title. The playoffs begin today with these matchups:
Lynn Woods Bloatflies (ET) vs Union Hope Lifegivers (SI) and DB Tech Nuclear Physicists (Lex) vs Greater Mass Vans (FHE).

For the lucky few going to the playoffs, the season is just beginning. For most, the postseason is a just a distant pipe dream -- a season that could have been. Their season is over except for the bashing, rehashing and revamping that takes place in the hot stove league. It's now time for the dominant teams to do battle for the 2314 Greater Boston Rookie League championship. It will be decided in the Rookie Series. Only the best will be left standing.
The Coastal Cottage Buds didn't win the North League Northeast Division by a wide margin, but the team still has an air of poise and confidence. A walk-off win over the Brunswick Brainiacs in the tiebreaker for the Northeast Division could do that.
In the bottom of the 9th, pinch hitter Mystic Moore hit a walk-off, RBI single to knock in Katoa Merton for the 7-6 win. Merton had tripled in the tying run earlier in the inning. Both runs came with two outs.
"We think we've clearly shown we're the best team in the division and now we want to show we're the best team in the whole league," said reliever Jackie Jones. "Everyone in this clubhouse believes in what we can do when we play our best baseball."
It remains to be seen if we will see the best of Buds baseball in the postseason, but for now the team can enjoy the franchise's 1st division crown.
Manager Cujo Jones said although his team was celebrating the division title late into the night, he wouldn't be partaking in the festivities.
"I'll still be up early getting us ready to win, division championship or not," he said. "It's off to bed for me."
Another regular season has played out, and the stage is set for the next level. The Greater Boston Rookie League playoffs are here. It has been a long, hard grind for the contending clubs to make the League Championship. All the playoff-bound teams want to cap off the year in glorious style by capturing the prestigious 2314 Rookie Series trophy. Each team will begin that journey today with these playoff games:
Coastal Cottage Buds (Sou) vs Fiddler's Green T-60s (Obe) and Woonsocket Orphans (Lex) vs New Britain Oceanics (Mal).
