It was Draft Day and teams were ready to make their selections. With the top overall pick, the White Sox did the right thing and selected Ty Cobb. Philadelphia selected Branch Rickey, while New York went with Orval Overall to round out the top-3 selections.

With the 16th overall selection, Boston chose catcher George Gibson. The scouting report on Gibson has him having "plus power potential" who is "very sure-handed and reliable" behind the plate and who is "aggressive" on the base paths but "runs well." With the remaining 4 picks (Rounds 2 through 5), the Americans selected RP Joe Harris, 2B Art Hoelskoetter, C Tubby Spencer, and 3B John Goodwin.
