Expos Lose Series Opener, 4-1, to Bolts

Memphis Bolts defeated the
Montreal Expos, 4-1, in Eastern League action at Olympic Stadium.

Isaiah Parker had a standout performance.
Parker got the win, improving to 11-4. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run.
Mike Rodriguez earned the save, his 24th in 26 tries.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for
Cody Shepard? The two-time All-Star
Shepard stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put
Memphis up, 4-1. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
Shepard said his team "executed a good game plan." The 2x All-Star is batting .248-3-25 .611OPS 0.2WAR in 87 games.

Bolts Upend Expos, 5-0
Memphis Bolts starter
Michael Brown hurled his team past the
Montreal Expos, 5-0.
Brown, now 4-7, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no runs.
Montreal, at 48-65, has lost 4 straight.
"We take it day by day here," said
Brown, "and today was a good one for us."
Tony Munoz was 2-4 with 2 singles for
Memphis. The 31-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the second. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring single off
Sam Rush. It was his 88th hit of the season. Signed on a 1-year deal, the veteran is batting .240-10-42 .645OPS 0.6WAR in 106 games.

Montreal, 5-1. The 23-year old pitched 6.1 innings of 5-hit and 1-run ball.
Montreal's current losing streak has reached 5 games.
Memphis used the hitting of
Alfredo Diaz to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the
Bolts on top, 2-0. For the game,
Diaz had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said

Expos Beaten by Grizzlies, 6-2
Grizzlies designated hitter
Pablo Vargas left his imprint on his team's 6-2 win over the
Montreal Expos.
Vargas went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for
Philadelphia in the contest.
Montreal is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 6 in a row.
With
Philadelphia trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth,
Vargas hit a fastball from
Adrian Hilscher for a 2-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the
Grizzlies ahead, 3-2.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said
Vargas, "and then get after it again." The backup first baseman/DH is batting .240-4-10 .697OPS -0.3WAR in 36 games.

Manny Olmos helped his team muscle past the
