The September 1 Super Post, Part 2

NEBL Playoffs

With a 4-2 win over the Clifton Vertibirds at The Launching Pad today, the Providence Warlocks wrapped up their 2nd title in team history.

The Warlocks left little doubt who was the better team. Celebrating a banner year, "team" was the word of the day in the victorious clubhouse after the game.

"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Providence manager Jason Narrows. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."

A jovial mood filled the air as Providence celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order.

"I hope they have a big celebration," Clifton manager Slim Twohand said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it."

MML Playoffs

The Pawtucket Pips are champions, today and forever. The Pips topped the Covenant Refractors 5-4 at Cavalry Grounds today to claim the Massachussetts Minor Series crown.

"Nobody can take this away from us, not ever," said series MVP and third baseman Ike McRae after his club had sealed the victory. "We worked hard and we accomplished our goal."

The atmosphere was electric as the newly-crowned champs stormed the field at the conclusion of the game. Fans cheered, gloves flew in the air, high fives and hugs were the order of the day.

"From day one of spring training, I could see it in their eyes," said Pawtucket manager Brad Smailes. "The players had that look of intensity, of hunger, of a desire to accomplish something great, and today they did that. They're champions of the world."

The Pips took the series 3-2. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Stars League Ted Williams Division and a 72-36 record.
