Vega Goes Downtown 3 Times Against Killer Whales
stadiumreport.bbn October 3rd, 2021
Whatever
Omar Vega(23, 5*) ate for breakfast before his game against the
San José Killer Whales, it gave him some impressive power.
The
Las Vegas catcher smacked three balls up and out of the park at Ballpark of
San José. His home run barrage helped the
Gamblers defeat the
Killer Whales, 14-1.
"When they throw it in your wheelhouse, you've got a shot at a homer," he told BNN reporters after the game. "I got three shots today and nailed them all."
On his 3-homer day, he went 3-for-4, scored 4 times, drove in 6 and put on a display that history will remember.
Omar Vega hit a two-run home run off
Danny Arauz in the 1st, walked in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off
Justin Hagen in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off
Justin Hagen in the 8th.
Vega is hitting .337/.402/.663 in 2021 with 108 RBIs and 43 home runs good for 8.6WAR, leading all of NMLB in WAR, batting average and OPS as well as slugging percentage.

Expos Lose in 6-4 in Extras Despite 5-5 Day for Messer
The
Salt Lake City Bearcats beat the
Montreal Expos, 6-4, at Bearcats Park. The win was due in part to right fielder
Brian Ward, who was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The win puts
Salt Lake City at 79-71 this season.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With one out,
Ward hit a curveball from
Ryan Rasbach for a 2-run home run. The
Bearcats, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Ward told the Salt Lake City News. The 3x All-Star is batting .305-35-112 .913OPS 3.2WAR in 143 games.
The star for the
Montreal Expos was
Ian Messer however. The right fielder went 5-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. He is batting .268-10-46 .710OPS 0.4WAR in 121 games and finally showing signs of his 2020 version.
