Game 13: Boston Americans vs. Chicago White Sox
A disappointing extra-innings loss that was a direct result of closer Jose Ramos failing to lock down the game. In this tight contest, the Chicago White Sox (6-7) bested the visiting Boston Americans (8-5) by a 7 to 6 score.
Picking up the win today was Charles "Chief" Bender who permitted 6 earned runs on 7 hits, 6 walks, and a hit batsman in the 10-inning performance; Game Score 51. The struggles of Noodles Hahn (1-3) continue, as he was tagged for 7 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits, 8 walks in 9 innings of play; Game Score 39. Jose Ramos (BS 1) permitted the 2 runners he inherited to score in the missed opportunity. Hahn's 8 walks set a Boston record for most allowed in an extra-innings game, and while the season is still young I am not liking what I am getting from Hahn's starts.
Chicago's offense was powered by Sherry Magee (2 for 3, Run, 3 Walks), Harry Bay (1 for 4, Homerun, Run, 3 RBIs), and Ty Cobb (1 for 1, Double, 2 RBIs). Bill Lange (2 for 4, 2 Doubles, 3 Runs, Walk), Jesse Hoffmeister (1 for 3, Triple, 3 RBIs, Hit-by-Pitch), and Fred Clarke (2 for 4, Run, Walk) played well on the day.
Player of the Game: Charles Bender
American League Standings: 1 GB, 3rd Place
