June 29th, 1992
We are back home after winning two in a row.
Today the Braves are pitching Jimmy Key (7-5, 3.12).
The Giants have Rod Nichols (1-6, 3.91).
I am hitting seventh, as usual.
In the 2nd, Jeff Bagwell scored on a Jim Thome single.
Mike Scioscia scored on a Key sac fly.
Braves lead 2-0
I came up in the bottom of the 2nd with one out and Craig Grebeck on 1st. I hit into a fielder's choice, replacing him at 1st.
I was left there.
I then came up in the 4th with two out and Ryan Klesko on 2nd. I grounded out to Thome at 3rd.
In the top of the 5th we turned a Priske - Thompson - Lewis double play.
Then in the 6th we turned a Nichols - Priske - Lewis double play.
I came up in the 7th with one out and Craig on 2nd. I struck out.
With one out and one on in the 8th, Matt went to Bryan Hickerson.
He got his outs and then, in the 9th, Mark Ross came in.
We ended up shut out.
The pitching and defense did their jobs, but the hitters did not.
I went 0 for 3.
Not only last min our division, but last in the National League and the second worst record in all of baseball. 30-45.
It is nearly July so we start wondering about who we might lose at the trade deadline.
Rick Sutcliffe? Jerry Browne? Ted Power?
Maybe.
