Game 22: Boston Red Sox vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
On a day that saw Boston starter Kutter Crawford get pulled after just 4-innings due with a pitch count at 107, the Pittsburgh Pirates (11-10) outlasted the visiting Boston Red Sox (11-11) by a 4 to 3 score.
Pirates starter Mitch Keller (2-2) picked up the victory after allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 7 in his 105-pitch effort; Game Score 61. Colin Holderman (SV 6) closed out the game to pick up the save. For Boston, Kutter Crawford was ineffective in that he allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits, 4 walks, 1 wild pitch, and 1 hit batsman in just 4-innings of work. Greg Weissert covered 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball before Kenley Janson (0-2) was tagged with the loss for allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits in 2 1/3 innings of play. Coming into the season I wasn't too excited to have Janson on the roster (too much money and miles on that arm) and his performance so far has validated my thoughts. I know the season is still young, but he is someone that I will try to move if I get the right deal.
Hitting for the Pirates came from Bryan Reynolds (2 for 4, Double, Run, RBI, Walk, 2 Stolen Bases), Andrew McCutchen (1 for 2, Double, Run, Walk, Hit-by-Pitch), and Ke'Bryan Hayes (2 for 4, Run, 2 RBI, Hit-by-Pitch). Tyler O'Neill (1 for 4, Homerun, Run, RBI), Tristan Casas (2 for 4), and Jarren Duran (1 for 4, Double, Run) played well in defeat.
Player of the Game: Mitch Keller
AL East Standings: 1 1/2 GB, 3rd Place
