Is there really nobody who can help this?

I know some of you have created pre 1871 teams...

How did you do this using guys from those teams who don't have baseball reference stats to use for their ratings? How did you make players like Doc Adams, Jim Creighton, etc? Did you just randomly create them or how did you figure out their ratings?
