Cards news: Dec. 30 -- Righty reliever Walker acquired from Giants for 1B Baker and minor-leaguer

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Ryan Walker from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for first baseman Luken Baker and right-handed minor-league pitcher Brian Holiday.
Walker. 29, was drafted by San Francisco in the 31st round of the 2018 draft.
He broke into the majors in 2023, getting into 49 games/13 starts during which he went 5-3 with one save and a 3.23 ERA.
In 2024, Walker took his game up a level pitching in 76 games/one start and going 10-4 with 10 saves and a 1.91 ERA.
The 27-year-old Baker was taken by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2015 MLB draft.
He made his major league debut in 2023, playing in 33 games/23 starts while hitting .209 with two home runs and 10 RBIs.
Baker spent most of 2024 at AAA Memphis, hitting .231 with 32 home runs and 79 RBIs.
In the majors, he played in 21 games and hit .175 with two homers and 10 RBIs.
Baker has hit 119 homers over the course of his minor-league career.
The Cardinals drafted Holiday, 21, in the third round of the 2024 MLB draft. He has yet to pitch in the minor leagues.
