The offense awakens...
For once in this series the Rays offense showed out, and with
Shane McClanahan on the mound in dominant form that's a recipe for an easy win and an easy win is what Tampa Bay got in their decisive ALCS Game 5. Mac was utterly dominant, fanning 12 in 6 shutout innings, allowing only 2 hits. The 12 Ks were a club record for the postseason and he was able to pitch without pressure thanks to the resurgent offense, which put up 5 runs by the 2nd inning with
Junior Caminero's 2-run 1st-inning homer setting things in motion. So it's on to the ALCS to play the Tigers, who will visit the Trop for Game 1 with
Hagen Smith on the mound for the Rays.
Meanwhile the NLCS is sorted out at the last minute as well:
Quite a comeback by the Reds to pull it out late. In that series the road team won all the games while in the other one the home team prevailed in all five.
