Percival Holloway – Offseason Baseball Diary
The last fortnight has seen the pace of the offseason slow somewhat—both in the world of baseball and in my own life. I’ve taken the opportunity to enjoy some quiet time with my family and tend to a few business affairs that had been long neglected during the excitement of the season.
On the baseball front, news has been rather sparse, with only two trades of note making headlines.
The first saw the Detroit Tigers acquire infielder Charlie Irwin from the New York Giants, with George Moriarty heading to New York in return.
The second trade involved the Brooklyn Superbas and the St. Louis Cardinals. In that deal, infielder Doc Casey was sent to St. Louis, while outfielder Patsy Dougherty joined the Superbas.
While the flurry of earlier trades has quieted, I expect things to pick up again before long. Teams are likely just catching their breath before the next wave of movement begins.
