CBA Analysis
Now that we have entered February, the 2314-2315 CBA season has begun to get interesting, including the former best team, Boston, best no more. Let's break down what has changed in January.
In the NCC, it is a bunched affair with Medford (22-15) on top, followed closely by Cambridge (19-15) and Salem (20-17). Con-Lex (12-24) looks to be the last place team this season. The Tigers have been the hottest team of late, winning their last five, while the Irish has been the best in their last 10 at 7-3.
In the SCC, the defending champions, the Airport Aviators (23-12), are now on a six-game winning streak, vaulting them past the Bugles (23-14), which is on a three-game losing streak. With a 4-6 mark in their last 10, Boston has also almost doubled their losses in the past couple of weeks. Quincy (16-22) and Southie (11-27) may be playing for draft position.
Should we just repeat this paragraph all season? Why not? The players of the month may be repetitive throughout the season. The top player was Boston's C Tre Davis, while Cambridge rookie Sniper Armstrong was the top rookie.
Looking at the League Leaders, Quincy's Reggie Pacer continues to lead the league in scoring average (33.4) trailed by Davis (30.8). Other categorical leaders are Junji Christie of Medford (10.2 APG), DA Forte of Airport (13.8 RPG and 2.4 BPG), and Jeryl Newman of Cambridge (3.0 SPG).
In the NEBA, there is a definitive talent gap with some teams way more dominant than others. Divisional leaders are Concord (21-11) in the North, Jamaica Plain (27-5) in the Downtown, Nuka World (29-3) in the West, and Brockton (24-9) in the South.
Both the North and South divisions are currently competitive with four 20-game winners per division. In the North, Portland and Portsmouth both trail the Colonials by a half-game, while Dover trails by 1.5. In the South, Plymouth trails the Spartans by a half-game, followed by Dartmouth and Sandwich. The New Britain Coyotes in the West are the only other team in the NEBA with 20+ wins.
Current league leaders are JRun Scrapper of Sandwich (28.3 PPG), Steady Scott Marks of Jamaica Plain (13.1 APG), Magnum McKie of Plymouth (15.0 RPG), Marque Hughes of New Britain (3.0 BPG), and Will Clark of the Royals (2.0 SPG).
CBO Analysis
It is baseball time, folks! Later this month, the Nuka Cup Tournament begins on February 27 with 24 of the 28 teams trying to play their way into the double-elimination tournament with those games starting on March 3.
In the meantime, the CCBL and CYL will see their groups of freshmen entering the fray trying to earn their way into the CBO draft within the next few seasons. All new teams to the both CCBL and CYL will also begin competing next month for their place in the championship hunt.
Ban the pink goo? The Sunshine Tidings franchise has noted an interesting side effect of the pink goo, also the namesake of their MML team in Suffolk County. The Chemists have reengineered the pre-War pink goo found in the Suffolk County Charter School, eliminating the pink-tinged side effect and instead showing increased abilities to improve performance. Since the CBO has banned all chems except for life-saving matters, the question is if Sunshine Tidings has a sudden competitive advantage. While they could use the boost, that boost would have to be available to everyone. Sunshine Tidings has been upfront about the usage, so we will see if there is any final decisions by the front office.
Passenger vertibirds in the works. Recent developments at ArcJet Systems has made passenger vertibirds a reality. We said that there would need to be developments in travel for the future expansion of the CBO. This may be it. A spokesperson for ArcJet Systems has stated that they are able to reduce crash rates and would like to get that number below 1% before they begin trial runs.
CBO Draft - Revisiting 2309
There are a lot of trades in the CBO. We wanted to look at the 1st Round of the 2309 CBO draft, the first that involved 28 teams. In the 28 players taken in the 2309 draft, only SIX played any time at all with their CBO-drafted team. While several more players have played in the CBO, including one of the best CBO players in C Red Jay Jones of Sunshine Tidings, very few players come up with their original teams. Let's look at the entire 1st Round.
