So I got past the consistent WS crash by simulating the game.

That didn't seem to be sufficient, so I restarted and crashed in Game 2 twice. I restarted again and simulated Game 2 successfully, then quit the game.

Next solution was to urn on the debug log, which seemes to have solved the problem as I was able to play to the end of the series and season. Just remember to turn the log off in File/Settings/Troubleshooting...

I still don't know what went wrong, but things are working again. Onward and upward.
