Cards news: June 23 -- OF David Dahl lost for season, Newell called up from Memphis
The St. Louis Cardinals have learned outfielder David Dahl will miss the remainder of the season after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during a 12-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on June 20.
It is expected to be between eight and nine months before Dahl can return to action.
Signed as a minor-league free agent on Dec. 22, 2024, the 31-year-old Dahl opened the season at AAA Memphis.
But when he was called to the majors on April 5, he immediately took advantage.
After a quiet April, Dahl hit .348 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 21 games in May.
For the season, Dahl played in 55 games/51 starts during which he hit .261 with nine home runs, 27 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is 24-year-old outfielder Chris Newell.
Acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 15 in a trade for J.D. Martinez, Newell has played well for the Redbirds.
In 53 games, he has batted .234 but has hit 16 home runs and driven in 42 RBIs. He also has scored 33 runs.
