Toronto Beats Montreal, 4-2

The Toronto Blue Jays got a stellar performance from pitcher Walt Laidlaw, who handcuffed the Montreal offense en route to a win, 4-2, at Olympic Stadium. The winning pitcher was Laidlaw, now 6-11. He tossed 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4. Ron Palovich got the save, his 27th in 33 chances.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Miguel Huerta? The Toronto second baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 1-0. For the game, Huerta had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Huerta said after the game. He is batting .294-8-25 .836OPS 1.9WAR in 62 games.

The Toronto winning streak has reached 4 games.

Paul Davis(R, 3-7 5.03) - Austin Roy(R, 7-10 4.17) tomorrow. Great stuff from the 23-year old, but he lacks movement and a bit of control.

Expos Score 13 to Beat Blue Jays, 13-1

The Montreal Expos beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 13-1, at Olympic Stadium. Montreal catcher Gabriel Cervantes had the hot bat. He went 2-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The Expos, at 59-65, inhabit third place in the Eastern League North East Division.

Dave Grochowski was 3 for 5 with 3 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for Montreal. The 24-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a 2-run single off Paul Davis. It was his 149th hit of the season.

"Good pitching and timely hitting is a recipe for success," said Grochowski. He is batting .351-14-74 .938OPS 4.4WAR in 120 games en route to a batting title.

Expos Win Wild Game in 15 Innings

The Montreal Expos defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 2-1, in 15 innings in Eastern League action at Olympic Stadium. Montreal pitcher Dan Hinton had a standout performance. He worked 7 innings of 3-hit and 1-run ball. Montreal now owns a record of 60-65.

The decisive blow was delivered by Robby Weltzer in the bottom of the 15th when he hit a run-scoring double off 27-year old right-handed pitcher David Rodgers to win the game for Montreal. The home crowd went nuts.

Weltzer told a Montreal Daily News reporter that he felt "ecstatic" after the win. The 25-year old is batting .279-8-44 .722OPS 19/21SB 2.9WAR in 112 games.

The unsung hero was Cesar Alvarado who pitched four scoreless in relief after our closer Adam Rudolph added three. Luckily, the injuries were all none too costly.

Expos Take 3-2 Win Behind Griffin

Fans watched the Montreal Expos and the Philadelphia Grizzlies fight to the finish.

Sam Griffin, who is tied for 4th in the EL in complete games with 2, was locked in. The right-hander led the Montreal Expos to a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Grizzlies at Olympic Stadium. He worked 5.1 innings of 1-run ball and got the W. The Montreal win streak is now 3 games.

Bobby Martinez had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for Montreal. He came through with a run-scoring single to put Montreal in front, 3-1. The young center fielder is batting .258-3-8 .749OPS 3/4SB 0.6WAR in 17 games.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Griffin said.

Griffin and the pen held the fort and we got some offense by our tired lineup. Bad news, our star lefty reliever Joe Herzer collected another injury, back spasms 1 week.

Cordoba Now 6-2 Following 3-2 Win

Olympic Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Montreal Expos and Philadelphia Grizzlies.

The Philadelphia Grizzlies picked up a win at Olympic Stadium, taking down the Montreal Expos, 3-2. Starting pitcher Alberto Cordoba was a big reason why. Jose Gutierrez notched his 26th save in 29 chances.

Cordoba allowed no runs on 3 hits over 7 innings for Philadelphia. With the win, the southpaw is 6-2 with an ERA of 3.09.

"Alberto was pumping the zone," said Philadelphia manager Pat Pierce.

The win puts Philadelphia at 68-58 this season.

Grizzlies Take Series with 4-2 Win

Philadelphia parlayed a decent outing from starter Oscar Guzman into a solid win over the Montreal Expos. The final score was 4-2. The first-place Grizzlies, at 69-58, lead the Eastern League North East Division by 4 games.

Guzman scattered 3 hits over 8 innings for the Grizzlies. With the win, Guzman goes to 6-8 on the year with 126 strikeouts.

"Oscar mixed and matched," said Philadelphia manager Pat Pierce.
