Cards news: Sept. 3 -- RP Ryan Fernandez and Angels' Velazquez suspended after brawl
Major League Baseball has announced that St. Louis relief pitcher Ryan Fernandez and Los Angles Angels' outfielder Nelson Velazquez have both been suspended four games.
Velazquez charged the mound after being hit by a pitch in the seventh inning of the Angels' 10-7 victory at Busch Stadium on Sept. 3.
Fernandez had given up a three-run home run to the previous batter, Mike Trout, to make the score 10-3.
The Cardinals also have learned that relief pitcher Eduard Bazardo suffered a back injury during the loss to the Angels and will have to be placed on the injured list.
Bazardo, 30, has pitched in 26 games for St. Louis this season posting no decisions or saves but owns a 5.59 ERA over 29 innings.
Getting called up from AAA will be 30-year-old right-hander Connor Johnstone.
He has pitched in 30 games for the Redbirds, going 4-2 with one save and a 3.86 ERA.
