MLB news: Sept. 8 -- New York Yankees sew up postseason berth
Despite falling 7-5 to the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees have clinched a spot in the American League playoffs.
With a 95-67 record, the Yankees own a 15.5-game lead over the second place Boston Red Sox in the American League East Division with 20 games left in the regular season.
New York also owns a sizeable 17 game lead over the AL Central leading Cleveland Guardians for the best record in the American League.
The postseason berth is the eighth in the last nine seasons for the Yankees.
New York fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 World Series.
Their last World Series victory came back in 2009, when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
